Surmai Fry is one of the easiest recipes and requires less number of ingredients. Its basically coated with spices and chilly powder and shallow fried for around 10 minutes. The end result is just mind blowing.

Recipe Details

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 medium size - Surmai Sliced
  • 1/2 cup - Rice flour
  • 1/2 cup - Rawa
  • 2 tbsp - Coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp - Chilly powder
  • 1 tbsp - Black pepper powder
  • 5 tbsp - Oil
  • 1 tbsp - Salt

Instructions

1: Wash the Surmai / Seer Fish pieces properly.

2: Apply some lemon juice and turmeric powder and keep the pieces in the refrigerator for around 15 minutes. This is to ensure that the Surmai fry does not get a typical fish smell after its completely done.

3: Next step is to prepare the marinate. In a small bowl, mix equal proportions of Rawa and Rice flour and keep this aside. This will be used to coat the fish before cooking so that they turn crispy and also get a rich color.

4: Mix pepper powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt in a bowl. Add some water and make a thick paste. If you want you could also add ginger garlic paste and imli paste to this.

5: In a Kadhai heat some oil. Apply the paste on the Surmai pices and then dip them in the rice n corn mixture and shallow fry for around 10 minutes. Stir the pieces after every 3 minutes so that all the sides are fried properly.

6: That is it, your Surmai fry is ready.
